New product discovery alert! Sweet Chaitai tomatoes from Banayoyo.

SWEET CHAI. In March last year, we set out in earnest to look for that one farmer who someone said planted his land to ROSE PINK TOMATOES. We found the “Kinalabasa” variety but not the pink one. Sayang, it was the perfect color for Lent and the ongoing political exercise. So wala, that was that. This morning, one of the farmers we asked about Pink Tomatoes, the one from Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur reconnected to say “may kakaibang kamatis kami” and those words made my heart skip a little. Well, it’s not Rose Pink but kakaiba nga, it’s the CHAITAI variety. Large, thick-skinned, smokey-colored and sweet tomatoes.
