GUIMARAS MANGO RESCUE. During the course of these rescue buys over the course of these two years, we’ve come across the repeated use of the term “RR” to describe second class fruits. RR rambutan, RR satsuma, RR mango and so on RR. A fruit that’s labeled RR it will never see the inside of an air-conditioned mall or a grocery. In Guimaras Island, world famous for its mangoes , it was the same thing. Mangoes are classified two ways: Good and RR. Good Mangoes are nurtured and protected on the tree, a festival was created to celebrate it, songs are composed for it, and people come by plane and boat to eat-all-you-can it. RR Mangoes? If mangoes were a family, RR is the unwanted child. If mangoes were a country, RR is a second-class citizen. They are left to survive and grow as best they can at the mercy of rain, insect and buyer. This is why they are smaller in size. But you know what? They are actually SWEETER. Unwanted child has so much to prove and on the Brix sweetness score it is equal or better.

The best way to help mango farmers in Guimaras is the same way we help the pineapple farmers in —San Lorenzo Ruiz, BUY THEIR RRs FOR A GOOD PRICE. So RuRi, the mangoes we shall be giving you, they will easily fit in the palm of your hand. Do not be disappointed. What we suggest you do is enjoy it like we did. Bite the tip, peel halfway and savor. If you find yourself wanting to write songs, we will not be surprised.
